A Research-Driven Fretboard Conditioning Formula

Fine Nourishing Oil No.1 is the result of material research focused on unfinished hardwoods used in fretboards. The formulation prioritizes penetration control, oxidation resistance, and long-term performance, ensuring consistent results without altering the natural behavior or feel of the wood.

Most fretboard oils rely on generic cosmetic formulas or aggressive solvents designed for short-term results. Fine Nourishing Oil No.1 was developed through material research, workshop testing, and long-term observation on high-end instruments.

Its formulation focuses on:

  • controlled molecular weight distribution for penetration without migration,
  • oxidation resistance to prevent long-term residue,
  • compatibility with dense, unfinished hardwoods used in professional instruments.

This approach ensures consistent performance over time rather than immediate cosmetic effect.

Clean, Natural Feel

Thoughtful Formulation, Measurable Results

Rather than creating an artificial surface sheen, the oil conditions the wood internally and evenly. Once absorbed, the fretboard retains its natural tactile response — smooth, dry, and comfortable under the fingers. Conditioning remains effective over time, reducing the need for frequent reapplication and avoiding saturation of the wood.

Many traditional fretboard products rely on petroleum-based carriers or citrus oils that evaporate quickly, leave residue, or interact unpredictably with wood and finishes. Fine Nourishing Oil No.1 avoids these components entirely. Its formulation is free from petroleum derivatives, lemon oil, and aggressive solvents, ensuring clean absorption and a residue-free surface even after repeated use.

The formulation is based on carefully selected natural oils, chosen for their stability, compatibility with dense hardwoods, and resistance to oxidation. These oils provide controlled conditioning without breaking down, polymerizing, or becoming sticky over time. The result is a predictable, consistent performance suited for long-term instrument care.

Designed for use on common fretboard woods such as ebony, rosewood, pau ferro, and similar materials, the oil is also safe when applied carefully around finished surfaces. It does not attack lacquers, polyurethanes, or modern finishes, making it suitable for both contemporary and vintage instruments when used as directed.

Designed and Used in Our Workshop

This oil is not a rebranded accessory. It is developed, tested, and used daily in the Belforti workshop on our own instruments. It meets the same standards we apply to materials, finishes, and setups — because it is part of our instrument ecosystem, not an afterthought.

Will it darken my fretboard ?

It may slightly enrich the natural color temporarily, without permanent darkening

Is it safe for vintage instruments ?

Yes. The formulation avoids aggressive solvents and unstable components

Does it leave residue or stickiness ?

No. When used correctly, it absorbs evenly and leaves a clean, dry feel

Is the scent strong ?

No. The woody note is subtle and fades naturally after application.
